Databricks launches support for Claude Haiku 5.5
Databricks has made Anthropic's Claude Haiku 5.5 available on its platform as a Day 0 launch, reporting roughly 15% higher quality than Haiku 4.5 on its OfficeQA Pro V1 benchmark.

Omnigent policies regulate agent cost and behavior by evaluating actions before execution, enforcing spending caps, restricting tool access, and requiring approval once accumulated session risk reaches a threshold.
Genie Ontology is now enabled by default. The update also adds workspace instructions, direct uploads of documents and data files, Unity Catalog queries inside Genie, and scheduled tasks that can reference past runs.
Databricks says OpenAI’s GPT-6.1 Sol and SpaceXAI’s Grok 4.7 are live today, and cites benchmark leadership for each. Both are available through Unity Gateway alongside more than 60 other models.
Patrick Wendell says Databricks now gives 12,000 employees access on the day a new frontier model is released, while trying to avoid large cost spikes and quality regressions.
Databricks says Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 5.5 is now available across AWS, Azure, and GCP and is governed by Unity Gateway. Databricks says it is more efficient than Sonnet 5 for coding and agentic work and reaches Opus 5-level accuracy on document understanding, parsing, and search.
Databricks says Lakebase Search is now generally available, adding scalable vector search and BM25 full-text search inside Postgres, with pay-per-use pricing and no compute cost while idle.
Patrick Wendell says Databricks’ analysis of 2,400 engineers’ online workloads, plus offline evaluations, finds Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Luna expand the cost/quality frontier. Opus 5.5 cut same-task cost by 20% versus Opus 4.8, and Databricks is encouraging it as a daily default for coding.
Databricks says LTAP unifies row-based operational data and columnar analytical data at the storage layer, while specialized compute continues to handle each workload separately for AI agents.
Databricks says Unity Gateway tracing and Genie One identified seven MCP-server bugs behind about $499,000 a year in wasted tokens, roughly 12,000 engineering hours a year of agent wait time, and 1,409 tool errors in 24 hours. Genie One ranked the fixes, and a coding agent helped close them within an hour.
Administrators can manage models, tools, policies and budgets in Unity Gateway while developers keep using Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and other coding agents. One configuration update is applied across supported agents.
As Row Zero joins Databricks, the company is bringing a native, fully governed spreadsheet experience to Databricks Genie, with enterprise-grade security and lineage through Unity Catalog.
The short-lived environments capture both schema and data, so tests do not affect production. Workflows use the Databricks CLI and AGENTS.md to compare changes with the parent branch before approved updates move through CI/CD.
Databricks is making OpenAI’s GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna and AnthropicAI’s Claude Opus 5.5 available to its customers. Databricks says the GPT-6 models perform strongly at lower cost with a higher Pareto frontier on OfficeQA Pro, and that Claude Opus 5.5 improves cost efficiency on enterprise document parsing.
Teams in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or custom agents can use one interface to access structured and unstructured data, insights, and answers from Genie One, grounded in governed business context from Genie Ontology.
Databricks says DevHub gives developers ready-to-use templates, documentation, step-by-step guidance, and agent prompts that can be copied into Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or another coding agent.
Databricks says its Advanced Learning Festival runs September 16 through October 14. Completing all modules in at least one pathway during that window qualifies learners for 50% off any Databricks Certification and 20% off a yearly Databricks Academy Labs subscription.
